Beading Divas to the Rescue

No animals are turned away

For the month of December, Beading Divas to Rescue is thrilled to be fundraising for Friends of Pima Animal Care Center (PACC).

The Friends of Pima Animal Care Center is a project fund held at the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona. It exists solely to support the work done at the only shelter in Pima County that never turns away a pet in need.

There are many challenges that come with being Pima County’s only open-admission shelter. On an annual basis, PACC cares for more than 20,000 animals, including many who arrive ill, injured or abused. The shelter routinely reaches overflow conditions, and even with a much-needed new shelter approved by voters in November 2014, the needs often outstrip available resources – which is where community support makes a huge difference.

The Friends of PACC fills critical resource shortages that the county can’t fill.

Recent investments include the purchase of a dental x-ray machine, so that PACC’s vets can save the lives of senior pets and pets who suffered oral trauma; the purchase of long-acting pain medications, so that cats who undergo major surgeries recover in the most comfortable way; and the purchase of the most effective compounding de-wormer, so that all baby animals surrendered to PACC have the best chance of staying healthy and finding a forever home.

Stay tuned as we will be sharing stories for how Friends of PACC are helping the animals.

Bridge Rescue for Dogs Tucson

Lilly says: Adopt me!

Foster-based Tucson Bridge Rescue for Dogs has some amazing rescue stories. Here’s one of them:

Lilly, at approximately 4 years old, was found on the streets and taken to PACC where she was diagnosed with not only heartworm but ringworm as well.

Her physical condition suggests she was used as a breeder dog and then dumped on the streets when someone decided they no longer needed her.

This sweet girl was given only 24 hours to be rescued because PACC cannot maintain ringworm dogs for long due to ringworm’s propensity to spread in the shelter environment. Both her heartworm and ringworm conditions have been fully treated, and she is now ready for her forever family.

Had her foster mom not stepped up, she would have been put down at the shelter, and we would have never had the opportunity to discover what a happy girl she is and how she loves everyone – dogs, kids, cats, you name it.

She would love to have a lap to call her own. Lilly is crate-trained, house-trained, vaccinated, spayed, microchipped, and ready to go to a home that will spoil her rotten.

Bob loves life!

Bob loves life!

Update: GOOD NEWS – Bob was adopted today – Nov. 23

For the month of November 2013, Beading Divas to the Rescue is honored to be raising money through bracelet sales for In the Arms of Angels All Breed Dog & Cat Rescue.

Started at the end of November 2010, AOA has adopted out more than 1,000 pets so far. Amazingly, they have approximately 100 fosters homes for dogs & cats! AOA pulls most of the pets from PACC (Pima Animal Care Center). Many of these pets are urgent or special needs. AOA supplies food for foster pets and pays for medical expenses thru designated veterinarians.

Above is a handsome fellow that would be a good fit for almost any home. Bob absolutely loves life, he has never met a person or a dog he doesn’t like and he is currently trying to learn that cats makes good friends too. Bob loves to explore the yard and enjoys hunting for lizards. He also loves playing fetch and catch. He is an intelligent guy who is very eager to please and already knows a few commands.

Bob adores car rides and he adores the attention of his humans. Bob is very tolerant with kids and had no objections to his foster sister trying to climb on him. Bob is not cat approved at this time, but he is making great strides at coexisting with his feline fosters. All together Bob is quite well rounded. Is Bob the dog for you?

AOA also has about 50 available cats.

Let’s sell a whole lot of bracelets this month! There are so many opportunities for where to buy them. As you can imagine with so many adoptions under their belt, AOA has a full schedule of meet & greets. Check them out as well as the beautiful bracelets which cost $20 and the entire $20 goes directly to AOA. You can pay cash or write a check payable to AOA.

Bracelets for broken legs

Bracelets for broken legs

Beading Divas to the Rescue is proud to be raising money for Jackie’s Fund for Injured Greyhounds under the Southern Arizona Greyhound Adoption (SA Greys) banner.

Jackie’s Fund began as a way to pay for beyond the normal spay/neuter/dental/fecal/etc veterinary expenses. SA Greys has paid for 5 broken leg surgeries, 3 of these dogs within the past 2 months.

While these dogs have either been adopted or are in foster homes recuperating nicely — specialized broken leg surgeries/follow up care can cost from $2,500 to $4,000 per dog.

This is a huge expense for any breed-specific adoption group.

The goal is to keep helping these broken leg dogs from the South Tucson track so they can experience forever homes just like the hounds in your house now.

So buy bling! It’s not too early to buy holiday gifts.

Handcrafted Beading Divas bracelets are made with beautiful donated beads; one size fits most (coiled memory wire used for easy on/off); each bracelet comes with a paw charm.

All bracelets cost $20. You can order them online (add S&H) and the entire $20 goes to the charity.

You can also buy bracelets at these locally-owned Tucson stores:

–-Silver Sea Jewelry & Gifts, 330 N. 4th Avenue, 624-9954
–-Clues Unlimited Mystery Book Store, 3146 E. Fort. Lowell Road (SE corner Country Club), 326-8533 (closed Sun/Mon)

Postnet, 7049 E. Tanque Verde, 733-9700 (closed Sat/Sun-limited selection)

Please pay cash or make the check payable to Southern Arizona Greyhound Adoption.
