Happy to be Going

Happy to be Going Home

Going Home is a project of the Greyhound Protection League.

What is Going Home?

Going Home means that when greyhounds stop racing at the dog track in South Tucson, they can safely leave and be transported to suitable adoption groups.

All that costs money to hire a person who is capable of safely transporting the dogs, paying for gas and possibly renting a vehicle plus veterinary services if required, flea & tick medications, food, and other incidentals.

The entire process requires planning, organization, and coordination among different interested parties. The dogs’ safety is of paramount importance.

So far dozens of dogs have left their racing life behind but many more are waiting for the same opportunities.

Greyhound Protection League is an expert in the field of greyhound protection and helping dogs out of tough situations. In 2008-2010, more than 250 dogs left the island of Guam after that track closed and the dogs were given away like kittens on a corner. GPL coordinated the arduous and expensive task of flying these greyhounds known as “Guammies” to US where a network of greyhound rescue groups helped bring the hounds into households all over the U.S.

Tucson kennel operators or dog owners who want Going Home to help pet out their Tucson dogs, contact GPL/Going Home.
