Jett & Donut relax

Jett & Donut relax

Written by Tucson Jett Greyhound

I went to a sleepover! Usually dogs sleep over my house but I got to go to someone’s house to sleepover. The only other time I slept over someone’s house was at Greyt Escape but there were lots of other dogs around.

You see, my human Karyn, wanted to be dog-free. I find that hard to believe that she didn’t want me and Girlfriend around as she claimed she wanted a break. She was supposed to go away but that fell through. She still figured out how to be dog-free for one night.

I know she must have missed ME very much. Girlfriend, probably not so much. I — Jett — did not miss Girlfriend.

The reason I didn’t miss Girlfriend is because I had a sleepover with my “real” girlfriend Donut and her person Judith. I just happen to live with Girlfriend, the other dog who lives with me. Pay attention. It’s not as complicated as it sounds unlike some mobile devices.

Anyway, Donut has a big backyard and we played there a lot in the early morning and sometimes I sniffed without her. Then we traded dog beds. I chewed bones. I played with toys. I like going there. Maybe I will get invited back another time? I got lots of loving. I wasn’t ignored like I am at my house.

This week was my “Gotcha Day.” I have been living with Karyn for 3 years. I came here when I was 4.5. I was the only dog at that time although some greyhounds stayed with us after their spay or neuter. Then a year later Girlfriend came along. I still pretend like I’m the only dog. Girlfriend thinks she is the alpha but she’s just the bitch.

I am looking forward to my next greyt adventure.

Love you

What you see is what you Jett

Thanks for new beginnings

Thanks for new beginnings

In an extremely rare occurrence Beading Divas to the Rescue opted to give the Greyhound Alliance/Sunburst Project another month of bracelet sales.

August 2013 is their 2nd anniversary and that means in two years they have successfully and safely transported 2,000 retired racing greyhounds out of Florida to adoption groups in non-racing states and Canada!

Everybody’s got to feel good (very good) about that.

You can buy bracelets online via Etsy. Bracelets cost $20/each (+S&H) and are available online as well as locally in Tucson.

The Greyhound Alliance’s Sunburst Project opened its Sunburst Kennel at Ebro, Florida, on August 1, 2011, partnering with GPA Emerald Coast, to move greyhounds from the tracks in the Florida Panhandle and beyond.

The Project is 100% funded by donations and grants.

Support from the greyhound community has enabled Sunburst to continue its mission – the Kennel remains open, as long as they can financially support it, and hopefully move 100 hounds a month, as was accomplished in May and June 2013.

During the month of August, when you buy a bracelet for $20, a donor is matching every sale. So $20 = a $40 donation. Buy 5 bracelets = $100 and the Sunburst Project receives $200. Do the math. It’s not too early to be proactive and buy holiday gifts.

This is your chance to help put more hounds on a haul on their way to forever homes, to help support the kennel where the dogs stay waiting for their haul, or to help with vetting and medical expenses.

The Greyhound Alliance is a non-profit 501(c)3 Illinois charitable organization.

Locally in Tucson, you can buy bracelets at these fine venues:

–-Silver Sea Jewelry & Gifts, 330 N. 4th Avenue, 624-9954
–-Clues Unlimited Mystery Book Store, 3146 E. Fort. Lowell Road (SE corner Country Club), 326-8533 (closed Sun/Mon)
–-A K Jensen Apparel, (St. Philips Plaza), 4340 N. Campbell Ave., Suite 72, 529-2775
–-Sissy’s Pet Salon, 7350 N La Cholla Blvd (by Albertsons), 229-9898

(FYI: There are 7 original Beading Divas who make the decisions and on our respective birthday months, each Diva can choose the charity. In May, Karyn Z chose GA/SP and in August, Glenda T chose GA/SP.)
