Beading Divas to the Rescue

abandoned fat cat

It was the middle of Tucson’s sweltering hot summer when one of PACC’s Animal Care Officers went to rescue JoJo, who weighed a whopping 29 pounds, from outside an apartment complex where he had been abandoned.

The obese cat was lethargic, panting and in obvious distress.

The officer brought JoJo back to PACC and right into the ICU. The donations from the Friends of PACC meant that one of the shelter’s veterinarians, Dr. Sarah Rios, could immediately give the overheated feline emergency care. She and her technicians worked to administer IV fluids, give him a cooling shave, and provide watchful, supportive care for several days while JoJo regained his health.

Thanks for saving me!

After JoJo health was stable, he went into foster care. He regained strength, lost weight and soon found a loving family.

WISHLIST
Monetary donations to the Friends of PACC will be used where the shelter’s pets need them the most. If you wish to make an in-kind gift of supplies to help the pets of Pima Animal Care Center, we suggest you look at the shelter’s Amazon Wish List: . Shelter staffers update the list weekly to reflect the pets’ most pressing needs, and your donations will be shipped right to the shelter’s doors.

Woofs without Roofs

helps pets belonging to Tucson’s homeless people

Woofs without Roofs is a 501 (c)3 organization that provides free veterinarian care to the pets belonging to Tucson’s homeless population.

The inspiration for Woofs without Roofs came about as veterinarians see pets affected daily by financial constraints not allowing for basic health services, such as core vaccines and internal parasite prevention. Woofs without Roofs believes that the pets of Tucson’s homeless community have a right to basic health care, and this in turn will promote health and wellness of the entire Tucson pet (and pet owner) community.

The Arizona Daily Star wrote about them in 2014.

You can follow them on Facebook.

An amazing Handi-Dogs team

An amazing Handi-Dogs team

the following was written by Handi-Dogs

TO SOME A DOG IS JUST AN ANIMAL. TO OTHERS A DOG IS A BEST FRIEND & A GREAT CAREGIVER.

Luna is a five year old Labrador Retriever, who found her home with Marty when she was adopted from Desert Labrador Retriever Rescue.

Marty has a congenital spinal condition that hinders her ability to rise from sitting positions and to bend over to pick objects up off the floor. During acute attacks, she needs assistance to walk.

A few years ago, Marty decided to train Luna to be her service dog. Although she had trained many dogs before, Marty knew she needed additional help in training Luna to do assistance tasks and sought that guidance from Handi-Dogs. They were certified a year later.

Today, Luna braces to be a support for Marty when she stands from a seated position. Luna is so bonded with Marty that when she sees Marty about to get up, she will walk over to stand in front of her even before she’s asked. When Marty says ‘fetch’ and indicates an item on the floor/ground, Luna will pick it up and bring it to her. On days when Marty needs help walking, Luna wears a stiff harness and walks next to her, allowing Marty to lean on the harness for support.

Marty recently commented, “Luna has changed my life. I live alone and feel more secure with her there. When I have a chronic episode and can’t walk, she supports me. She’ll pick things up from the floor for me that I drop. She’s been a life-changing influence for me!”

mostly cockers and poms

Buy bracelets / help cockers like me Taj

For the month of August, Beading Divas to the Rescue is thrilled to be fundraising for Mostly Cockers and Poms.

Mostly Cockers & Poms is a small, in home 501(c)3 non-profit animal rescue incorporated in the State of AZ. They have been a top rated non-profit on the Great Non-Profits site since early 2013 and are partners with many area shelters and several high kills shelters in southern California as well.

Taj is a 7 year old spayed female cocker spaniel. She is roughly 22 lbs, good with most other pets, ignores kitties, house trained, crate trained, great on leash and in the car. Taj i lovable but happy to be independent if you want her to be; she is very well behaved and not a barker.

Taj is diabetic and requires twice a day insulin shots but she is easy to give them to and her disease is very well controlled. Her human mom died earlier this year and she has been living with her vet waiting for a new forever home.

She has had a dental done, had cataract surgery on one eye, is current on shots and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $150.

All pets are fully treated for any illnesses, spayed/neutered, current on shots and micro-chipped prior to going to their new homes. By living in our homes and getting to know the pets, they are able to make the best possible new home match, and, work on any training/behavioral issues prior to adoption if needed.

August 9 and August 23
Mostly Cockers and Poms will be at the Pet Club, located at 3996 W Ina Rd, Ste 130, Marana, AZ 85741 on August 9 and 23 from noon to 3 pm. They will have adoptable dogs AND bracelets. Tell them Beading Divas to the Rescue sent you.

Ubu & Tiger sunbathe

Ubu & Tiger sunbathe

From Sandi, a Cold Wet Noses volunteer:

“Ubu is such a character. He was probably one of Cold Wet Noses most well-known dogs. I fostered him for over a year and a half and he went to Petsmart tons of times, a baseball game, a TROT rummage sale event, the Octoberfest, the dog park, and I’m sure many other events that I can’t think of right now.

Everywhere we took his lovely mug, people recognized him. But he was a barely affectionate, funny looking, older, not very adoptable dog. Everyone wanted to pet him but not take him home.

Of course, there’s a saint around every corner and now he lives on several acres with other funny looking and/or older dogs, (including another ancient one, Tiger, also from Cold Wet Noses) and horses and mules, with his wonderful new mom Linda and her family in Sierra Vista.

His new adopter said that within a few weeks Ubu was shoving the others out of his way so he could hog the loving for himself. Just shows that they really know the difference between their foster home and their furrever home!”

Wow! Can you imagine fostering a dog for 1.5 years and being so dedicated taking him everywhere for exposure?

That is what Tucson Cold Wet Noses does. They go the extra mile or three to get each and every dog adopted.

There are only a few more days to buy beautiful bracelets to benefit Cold Wet Noses. Or if bling is not your thing, you can make a direct donation to them here.

Locally, you can buy $20 bracelets at:

-Silver Sea Jewelry & Gifts, 330 N. 4th Avenue, 624-9954
-Coyote Wore Sideburns Hair Salon, 630 N. 4th Avenue, 623-7341 (May only)
-Sissy’s Pet Grooming Salon, 7350 N. La Cholla Blvd (in Albertsons Shopping Center), 229-9898

Coiled bracelets are one-of-a-kind made with donated beads; one size fits most. Bracelets come with a paw charm.

You can also buy bracelets online (add $5.50 S&H). All bracelets sales sold online will be matched by an anonymous Cold Wet Noses adopter during May only. So, one bracelet for $20 translates into $40 to CWN. It’s a generous offer and an encouragement to shop online.

Adopt MeMe - 6 year old German Shepherd dog

Beading Divas to the Rescue is very proud to be raising funds for Tucson COLD WET NOSES for May 2012.

Cold Wet Noses started in 2005 but became an official non profit in 2010. Since their inception they have rehomed approximately 1,650 dogs!

Cold Wet Noses Tucson takes dog from Pima Animal Care Center (PACC) and finds foster and adoptable homes for them, usually at the 11th hour.

In 2011, Cold Wet Noses

–Rehomed 366 dogs in 2011 (a dog a day!)

–$42,000 of veterinarian bills

–Paid $6,100 for dog food, medications and other pet supplies

–CWN also receives dog food donations from PET CLUB and/or buys it from Costco. Currently they have 57 foster homes but the number changes daily

Cold Wet Noses Wish List

–more fold down wire crates – mostly size medium
–another pop up tent for adoption events
–a storage shed
–more volunteers to help walk dogs at PACC

One-of-a-kind bracelets cost $20 and every bracelet comes with a paw charm. Bracelets make great heartfelt gifts for MOTHERS DAY on May 13. The entire $20 goes directly to CWN. You can pay with cash or check made out directly to the charity. Be generous!

You can buy bracelets locally at:
Silver Sea Jewelry & Gifts, 330 N. 4th Avenue, 624-9954
Coyote Wore Sideburns Hair Salon, 630 N. 4th Avenue, 623-7341 (for May only)
Sissy’s Pet Grooming Salon, 7350 N. La Cholla Blvd., 229-9898

You can also buy bracelets online via Etsy (add $5.50 S&H). An anonymous person who adopted her dog through Cold Wet Noses three years ago will be matching Etsy bracelet sales dollar for dollar (less S&H). Wow!

Beading Divas to the Rescue

Tucson–The 4th Avenue Fair happens March 25, 26, and 27. Let’s all focus on good weather, friendly crowds, and many $ales for the 4th Avenue merchants and the visiting artists.

Check out the fundraising bracelets at the Silver Sea Jewelry booth which is north/caddy corner from Bison Witches Cafe (I recommend the delicious chili or hot soup in a bread bowl and a cold beer.)

Bracelets cost $20 and are all one-of-kind made with donated beads. Bracelets coil for easy on and off. Bring cash or make a check payable to Woofs without Roofs. Bracelets make great gifts especially knowing that they help a cause like Woofs without Roofs which provides veterinary services to pets belonging to the homeless in Tucson.

Instead of an Easter bonnet, what about an Easter bracelet?
