Buy me now!

Congratulations to Greyhound Support Transport — they are the lucky winners of the Bead Drive Contest drawing held last month.

During the month of February, all bracelets sales will be given to them. It’s a short month so you better start buying.

During Greyhound Support Transport’s first year –2009 — their goal was to place 200 dogs. They surpassed that with 250.

In 2010 their goal was to place 250 dogs. They placed nearly 400. And because they were able to place so many, a lot of those dogs were from farms and other racetracks in Florida not just in Miami.

The majority of dogs went out West to Oregon and Colorado to Greyhound Pet Adoptions Northwest, Homes 4 Hounds, and Oregon Greyhound Adoption; all three are located in Oregon. In Washington state dogs go to Greyhound Pets Inc and in Colorado, Almost Home for Hounds.

On the East coast, dogs go to Forever Home Greyhound Adoptions, Greyhound Friends of New Jersey, Fast Friends, and many others, although in small numbers, as that’s where the majority of other Florida retired racers go. Bay Area Greyhound Adoptions in Tampa also homes alot of dogs for GST.

As we go through the month, you’ll learn more about Greyhound Support Transport. Not an adoption group, they haul retired racing greyhounds out of Florida to non-racing states and Canada.

Please consider buying a bracelet or three as gifts to help the dogs get to be couch potatoes that much faster.

In Tucson, bracelets can be purchased at Silver Sea Jewelry & Gifts, 330 N. 4th Ave., or Dirty Dawgs dog wash, 2510 N. Campbell Ave.

The recipient of our bracelet sales for October goes to Greyhound Adoption League (GAL) in Tucson, Ariz.

Tucson has a dog racing track so there is always a dire need for retired racing greyhounds to find good homes. GAL has been busy helping Tucson greyhounds be hauled to Calif. and the NW which has no greyhound racing.

Lizzie Mead got her first two greyhounds from GAL – Lace was found in dumpster but fortunately, spoiled to the age of 15, when she died. Whiskey died at 7 of neurological disorder.

You can find an assortment of one-of-a-kind beaded bracelets at:

–Silver Sea Jewelry & Gifts – 340 N. 4th Avenue, in Tucson – (520) 624-9954

–Desert Rose Homeopathic Pharmacy – 2550 E. Ft. Lowell Road in Tucson

–online at Lizzies Stardust (etsy.com)

Bracelets are one-of-a-kind made with donated beads, one size fits almost all, easy on and off, bracelets cost $20/each + $3 shipping for online sales.

To donate beads or host an event where the Beading Divas to the Rescue can sell these bracelets for our designated cause — please contact karynzoldan@yahoo.com Put the word “bracelets” in the subject line. Thank you.

I saw there was a greyhound mix sitting on death row at the Pima Animal Care Center (PACC). I contacted Arizona Greyhound Rescue (AGR) and asked if they would take this dog. My promise was that the Beading Divas would sell 25 bracelets ($500) and donate the money to AGR for the care of this petite greyhound mix.

Charm: greyhound mix rescued from PACC

Charm: greyhound mix rescued from PACC

AGR complied.

I dubbed the dog “Charm” because our one-of-a-kind beaded bracelets come with either a sterling silver greyhound charm or a paw print charm.

Charm has the greyhound physique and face but is smaller than a greyhound. She was confiscated from her previous residence because of abuse. Charm was literally three hours away from being euthanized. Maybe her nickname should be “Lucky Charm.”

Charm is in foster care with my sister and she will be fattened up because now she is a bag of bones. She seems tolerant of all kinds of animals and is not a cat-chaser. She loves stuffies and is already playing with toys and with the other dogs. Charm really likes children and is an all around great girl.

Charm is saved. She is one lucky dog.

This blog was created to raise money to pay greyhounds Opal and Rider’s $14,300 vet bill. The funds came through online donations, the greyhound and dog-loving community both in Tucson and across the globe. And through the sale of beautiful bracelets –mission accomplished!

Then we donated $1,164 to the Guam Greyhound Project through more donations and bracelet sales.

Then through the sale of bracelets only, we raised $1,165 for Arizona Greyhound Rescue, here in Tucson.

Since we have more beads and the desire to continue…we have decided to give ourselves a name — Beading Divas to the Rescue — and continue making bracelets for worthy causes.

Our next cause is Greyhound Support in Kansas. The money from the next 25 bracelets that we sell ($500) will go towards getting 5 senior greyhounds on a bus (or hauling vehicle) which will deliver them to adoption groups.

For now you can buy bracelets in Tucson ($20/each) at Silver Sea Jewelry & Gifts, 330 N. 4th Avenue, 624-9954.  Or visit our Etsy store, LizzieStardust, which will have a good assortment of bracelets after Memorial Day.

We are: Diva Angy, Diva Cynthia, Diva Glenda, Diva Michelle, Diva Loren, and Diva Karyn

Contact karynzoldan@yahoo.com to donate beads, host a bracelet selling party, or for more info.
