A love connection

Zeus found his forever home

For the month of November, Beading Divas to the Rescue is happy to be raising funds for Pima Paws for Life (PPFL).

PPFL helps to relieve our community’s (Tucson) open admission shelter, Pima Animal Care Center (PACC) by removing some of the sick dogs, nursing them back to health, and then adopting out these animals. This means more shelter dogs have a better chance to find homes vs. the grim alternative.

Here’s one happy ending story:
PPFL received Zeus from PACC in February. He was extremely underweight and had a large wound on his back that had been stitched closed at PACC. He had a severe upper respiratory infection and needed fluids for dehydration. It took Zeus a long time to recover, but through it all, he was always good-natured. Zeus spent several more months at the PPFL kennel waiting for his forever home, enjoying time spent with volunteers and his squeaky toys.

Then one day Josh and his family met Zeus and decided to foster him. After a week in foster, his family couldn’t wait to make his adoption final! Zeus loves his new mom and girl and also has a 13 year old pittie sister he gets along great with too. His new dad Josh said, “I know Zeus was at PPFL for some time, but it’s because he had to wait for us to find him. Forever Love and Squeaky Toys, Zeus!”

Consider buying gorgeous one-of-a-kind bracelets to raise funds for dogs like Zeus. Bracelets are made with donated beads. One size fits most and all bracelets come with a paw charm which signifies our mission to help 501 c3 animal charities. Bracelets cost $20 and the charity receives the entire amount.

Chester is a good boy.

Chester is a good boy.

As I write this, In the Arms of Angels has 3,995 “likes” on Facebook and are trying to hit 4,000. If you haven’t “liked” them yet, here’s their Facebook page.

We’re wrapping up the final few days of selling Beading Divas bracelets to benefit In the Arms of Angels.

But first, meet Chester, he’s a happy mature 7 year old boy with a lot of life left. He fetches. He plays. He has good manners. He’s handsome. Chester seems eager to learn – he sits well and knows to wait for permission before eating his dinner. He sleeps quietly through the night and has been trained to stay off the furniture in his foster home. Chester is affectionate and loyal and he loves belly scratches!

Beading Divas do brunch

Beading Divas do brunch

Yesterday six of the original seven Beading Divas to the Rescue went to brunch at Shlomo & Vito’s Deli in Tucson.

We sat outside under the mist which was cool until it wasn’t.

The food was quite delicious and the service adept. I loved my scrambled eggs with lox & onions and latkes and toast. Their $5 Bloody Mary was spicy and potent. Clean plates abounded and everyone proclaimed their sandwiches tasty. I could’ve gone for an egg cream to polish off the meal but decided against it. And oh, those ginormous macaroons in the bakery case on the way out called my name but I kept walking. They were so tempting I could plotz. Now I wish for just a few sweet crumbs.

We noshed. We laughed. We gabbed. We gossiped. We talked about the future of Beading Divas to the Rescue.

We congratulated ourselves for RAISING $46,700 BY SELLING ONE TWENTY DOLLAR BRACELET AT TIME for worthy animal charities.

Sweet Winnie - cattle dog

Winnie loves you

The following was submitted by a New Hope Cattle Dog of Arizona volunteer:

“I first met Winnie in the dark and late at night, and I couldn’t really see her. I had an impression of a sweet face and a skinny body that was wagging (yes her entire body was wagging!) but that was it. Winnie came to me for foster after she had been pulled from Pima Animal Care and Control with a severe case of kennel cough. It was so bad that at one point in time the people who originally pulled Winnie from PACC thought that she would die. But she was a tough little cattle dog, and she wasn’t going to let something like kennel cough get her down. The next morning, I was right about the sweet face. I fell in love immediately. Her forehead had a dent in it that just added to her cuteness. We figured that she had been a working dog at one point in time, but something had happened and she ended up fighting for her life at PACC.

Kudos to New Hope Cattle Dogs for all their hard work.

Consider helping them out this month by making a donation directly to their group or buy some bracelets. Valentine’s Day is coming! Each bracelet is one-of-a-kind and comes with a paw charm. Bracelets cost $20 and the entire amount goes directly to the cattle dogs!

Adopted from Hope Animal Shelter

HOPE gave Mikey hope

Mikey is a very sweet dog who went through some challenging times; now, thanks to the supporters of HOPE, life has gotten much better for Mikey.

He was rescued by HOPE from PACC, and was then taken the vet to have a lump removed. The vet discovered that at some point someone had tried to sew a wound shut themselves without taking this sweet boy to a doctor. The area had to be cleaned out, leaving a much larger scar but a happier and healthier dog.

After receiving much needed appropriate vet care and some extra TLC at the shelter, Mikey was able to find his perfect forever home. All animals have a chance at HOPE, regardless of their medical needs.

Supporting HOPE ensures that they will all receive whatever care they need.

Only a few more November shopping days left to help HOPE. Bracelets make awesome gifts for animal lovers because not only are they beautiful but they help rescue groups in need. Buy online (add $4 S&H) or locally at:

Silver Sea Jewelry, 330 N. 4th Avenue, in the 4th Avenue Shopping District

Sissy’s Pet Grooming Salon, 7350 N. La Cholla in the Albertsons Shopping Center at Ina Road

Luna has a happy ending

Luna has a happy ending

Luna is a great example of what a little HOPE can do for an animal.

She arrived at HOPE on a busy afternoon; someone shoved a skinny, sore-covered dog through the front door and ran away.  Based on her appearance, she seemed quite old.  It turned out that Luna was only about 4 years old, but suffering from a bad case of untreated Valley Fever.

Luna received a great deal of medical care, love, and nurturing and eventually was able to be adopted.  She found the perfect home with all of the love and kindness she could ever want.

In this photo, she is a very happy and much healthier dog who came to a fundraiser to support the shelter that saved her life.

Everyone loves a happy ending.
