Look at that greyhound face!

August 31 – Rally to Remember Missy the Greyhound
Three years ago, a racing greyhound named Missy was senselessly euthanized at Tucson Greyhound Park even though others tried to save her. This incident illuminates everything that is wrong with greyhound racing: Dogs still die. Dogs break their hocks and legs. Dogs suffer serious injuries. Greyhound welfare is not a priority. The rally happens August 31 in midtown Tucson at 4915 E. Speedway (1 block east of Swan), in front of an off-track-betting bar. Join animal advocates and greyhound adopters as we remember Missy from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Signs are available or bring your own. Read about the Tucson greyhound Missy debacle.

Celebrating Mahalo Tucson Greyhound
Mahalo might not have his mug shot on a postage stamp but here’s one better, his riveting face will be on a Visa credit card. The credit card is a fundraiser for GREY2K USA. Every time you use the card, the national greyhound advocacy group committed to ending greyhound racing nationwide receives a small percentage. Sign up for your Mahalo credit card today!

September 11 – Dog Wash Fundraiser/All Breeds Welcome
Get those dirty dogs washed at Arizona Greyhound Rescue’s second summer dog wash held at a new location, this time in the parking lot of PAWS Veterinary Center located at 300 E. River Road. This event is in conjunction with the United Way’s Days of Caring where employees from Tucson businesses volunteer for a day for local non-profits. The good folks from Geico will be there. Who knows? You just might meet the gecko. Dog wash hours: 8 a.m. to noon; no appointment required, first come/first served. $10/wash, $10/nail trim or $15/both.

September 11&12 – Books & More Entertainment Sale and Raffle

After your dogs are clean, come on down to the Humane Society’s Sale & Raffle featuring a huge selection of books, CDs, DVDs, VHS, software, videogames, kids’ stuff, fine arts, and more! Most items are $4 or less! Sale runs both days from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. And then there are 9 amazing raffle baskets to win. What fun at the Companion for Life Center located at 3465 E. Kleindale Rd.

P.S. The Humane Society needs wet cat food and dog food suitable for puppies.

Buy bracelets to benefit Tucson pit bulls – bracelet fundraiser ends August 31.
