Hi Fans
It’s been like a whirlwind of activity around here. Never, and I mean never, a dull moment.
April was the Greyhound Blitz for National Adopt a Greyhound Month and we have been blitzing like crazy.
I went to the Farmers Market at the Loft Cinema and met every man, woman, child, and dog who came that day. Some guy sang a song about me — When you’re a JETT, you’re a JETT all the way from your first cigarette to your last dying day. He was funny. He wanted to take me home but my human didn’t like that idea.
The following Saturday I went to Pima Air & Space Museum. Wow! What a great place. Big. Friendly. I met so many people, some from Japan and Switzerland, and Austria plus the good old USA. I was quite popular.
Then I went to the Rainbow Remembrance. That was a sad event as people stood up and remembered the greyhounds that went to the Rainbow Bridge. My human talked about Hush Puppie, Romance, and Atomic Charm — not dogs that I ever met but dogs that never got to be a beloved pet like I am.
Then I went to a Meet & Greet at Royal Kia of Tucson and met lots of new people and kissed some babies. Maybe I should be a politician?
I guess the Blitz is over. Big sigh.
Then we had lots of dogs stay with us. We had Dylan and Christopher (available) and Piper stay here for respite fostering. Piper got adopted by a nice family who came to pick him up; they had his littermate. Saffron stays here sometimes; she’s a nice old gal. Donut is here now; she’s an alpha girl who hogs the couch. And then there’s Carter who I know my human just adores. His people go away a lot and he spends a fair amount of time with us. I don’t mind. He is Girlfriend’s body guard but in a nice way.
So there you have it. Busy. Busy. Busy. Plus I go to middle school again later in May. I can’t wait!
What you see is what you Jett…
P.S. I’m wearing Thera-Paws because I have paw problems but hopefully they are getting better. Paws crossed…so they say.

Hi fans. I went to middle school in December and met with the most amazing class ever. These 6th graders were super bright. They asked my Karyn all the right questions about dog racing. If these kids governed the world, there would be no dog racing and no animal cruelty.
While visiting the school I was still limping. I have some debris deep inside my paw pad. It’s a big OWIE. We have been to my lovely veterinarian and even to that fancy specialty place and so far no solution except to amputate my toe. Cha-ching! Those are my Karyn’s sound effects.
The students all wrote me notes too. I will share some:
Jett, I hope you never have to go through that racing again and get better!
Dear Jett, you are the cutest dog ever!!!
I hope your paw heels (sic) and your life has many adventures ahead.
Dear Jett, I know that you can’t read but I hope that you live long and live happy with your owner. You are a really nice and cute dog!
There are more but I don’t need to share all of them. Sharing is not my favorite activity.
I have been to this school many times and the kids remember my name. Today I went in an elevator. It was an elevating experience.
Life has been hectic at my house because there never seems to be any down time for my Karyn. She is always on the go. We had Saffron stay with us. Saffron’s person and Karyn are friends and Saffron stays here a lot. She is an old gal but kind of fits right in. As you can see in this photo below she is making herself cozy. We thrive on cozy.
Then some black and white dog stayed here for one day. He was a nice dude. And now some black dog with tuxedo markings have been staying here. I don’t know his story but he’s a bit grabby when it comes to treats. Girlfriend barely tolerates him.
So there you have it. I hope to get to the computer more often but Karyn hogs the keyboard. Hey hounds, are any of you missing a toe (or a digit as the specialist guy said) and if so, what is life without a toe?

Tucson greyhound Jett goes to City Council meeting
written by Jett Greyhound
The other day I went to this big tall building downtown. I met lots of people. When I stick my needle nose face into their face, they are a bit surprised, laugh, and pet me.
KOLD Channel 13 reporter Bud Foster and I became the best of friends. We were nose to nose. He couldn’t keep his hands off me.
Anyway my human is all over the place with this dog racing steroids thing and sometimes she takes me along.
The City Council was interesting and there was another greyhound — Dilly. She is a masculine female. She was strong and had a beautiful Roman nose. I have a demi-Roman nose. While Dilly was very alert, I relaxed and laid down on the carpet and just listened to the people talking.
Then I was on TV and in the newspaper. We walked our neighborhood and some lady comes running out of her house and said, “Hey, is that the dog in the newspaper today?”
Yep, that would be me.
Do you want my pawtograph?
Love ya. Remember, what you see is what you Jett.
P.S. Yesterday was Girlfriend’s 1st Gotcha Day. Girlfriend is the other greyhound who lives here. She is not my “girlfriend.” Donut is my real girlfriend. Karyn forgot to celebrate. But on another note, GF’s corns are all gone. Now Karyn said we must have a double celebration. Girlfriend is no longer a Corn Dog.

Howdy my dear friends. My human Karyn rarely lets me blog as she is either goofing off or working or being the bon vivant she is. Sorry for my tardiness in reporting.
During the week of May 14, we were busy. We went to two different schools. I – Jett Greyhound – am in demand.
On Tuesday May 15, Karyn, Ms. Vigo, and I went to a new school around 12th Avenue & Ajo Way. It was a beautiful elementary school and all the children were so well behaved. We visited a kindergarten class. Ms. Vigo did a short lesson on greyhound racing using a PowerPoint demonstration.
After the lesson, Karyn asked the tiny kids to raise their hand if they were afraid of big dogs. Most of them raised their hand. So Karyn explained how to pet a dog. All the kids gathered around me and petted me. I’m not scary and I love the loving.
Then Ms. Vigo gave them some greyhound pictures to color. The class also gave us a colorful collage. It was a wonderful morning. As usual I confidently pranced around the halls like I owned them.
Then on Thursday, May 17 we went to Ms. Vigo’s middle school classes where I have gone several times before. I should be their new mascot because whenever I enter the grounds, many kids remember me and come over to say, “Hi Jett!” Then we went in the office to sign in and I got some love in there too.
Usually I walk around the class and lick ever kid while Karyn talks and the kids ask questions, then I go lie on my bed until the next class comes in. I am a super star. I participate in two different classes.
Here are some notes, the kids wrote to me:
“Hi Jett. You seem like a great greyhound. Nice meeting you.”
“You are so adorable!! I don’t even have to test your running skills (heart, heart).”
“Be a good dog, I know you are.” (happy face)
“You are a brave soul Jett! We love you!!!”
“Hi Jett, I’m sorry about greyhound racing but I’m glad you are free!”
“You cool.”
“Hi Jett, I heard you were a nice dog! I’m glad you don’t have to be in that horrible place anymore! Good thing you have a loving owner.”
“You are so cute!”
“Thank you for coming. I have never met a dog this quiet.”
“Forget the bad memories.”
“You are so cute, strong, and a role model much like a human. Thanks for coming cutie.” (happy face)
So there you have it. Every time I come home from one of these outings, I am pooped but I so love to go.
Yet, another school wanted us to visit…but we ran out of time as Karyn was going on vacation. I am always happy to come to your school and I’ll bring Karyn with me.
My school spirit even made the PETA newsletter.
When Karyn went on vacation, I had my own adventures but will save that for another time.
Remember…What you see, is what you Jett…
Love from the Jett-Setter

Jett Greyhound here. I went to school again on Friday. I go to middle school. I have been many times already so when I come on the grounds, the kids run up to me and say, ‘’HI JETT.’’ I was born to be famous and not from racing around some darn track either.
This time we met with 7th and 8th graders. I don’t do stairs so they had to find a vacant room for us and this time we met in the gym. Karyn talks a bit about animal cruelty/greyhound racing and greyhound adoption and then all the kids ask questions and can have their pictures taken with me.
After Karyn finishes talking and they ask her questions, she said, “Pretend you’re 23 years old today. It’s Friday night. Raise your hand if you’re going to the track tonight to bet on the dogs.” Nobody raises their hand. Mission accomplished.
I love those kids and they love me.
Since we were in the gym, these boys wanted to race me. Can you imagine? I left them in the dust each time. Nobody could keep up with me. We ran back and forth, over and over. I was tired but I still ran. It was so much fun.
After the first class, I was so pooped that I laid down on my bed but I rose to the occasion and ran with the next class. As pooped as I was, I still beat them. They were hooting and hollering and cheering me on.
It was a glorious day and I made so many new friends.
I am so popular – in fact – that I go back again to do the 6th grade in a few weeks and we are maybe invited to another school to meet with first graders.
No matter where you are, remember WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU JETT

Jett Greyhound here…
Life is good. I went to middle school last week. One teacher we know teaches a class on kindness to dogs, dog racing, and adopting a greyhound. The teacher Ms. V. also showed the classes two youtube videos. I have good experience and I am the star of the show.
As part of the lesson, the kids have to ask thoughtful questions about dog racing and about greyhounds. Some of the questions were:
“Why does the government allow animal cruelty?”
“Does Jett have many friends?” (Yes – Donut, Saffron, Anabel, Carter, Opa, Riley)
“How often does Jett get a bath?”
“How fast do greyhounds run?”
My human Karyn talks to the class and as she does I wander around the room licking the kids or rest on my bed. These kids were the best. This time I saw something in the corner that I was curious about. There was a dog that looked just like me looking at me but I couldn’t find him.
Karyn told the class that I only get 2 or 3 baths a year and generally don’t have the dog smell that other breeds do but that my feet smell like Fritos. So of course all the kids wanted to smell the bottom of my paws. They also spent a lot of time looking at my tattoos.
The kids then wrote notes to me and Karyn read them to me when we came home. Here are some of the notes:
“Jett, you are big and awesome.”
“Jett, I will never go to a race track.”
“Jett, I am glad that you are safe.”
“Thank you for bringing that cute Jett.”
“When I grow up, I’m going to get a cute dog like Jett.”
So there you have it. I can tell you I was pooped but am always happy to go and help the class learn about greyhounds.
I’m a good boy. Remember…What you see, is what you Jett

Hey hound dogs and your love slaves…
Today is my birthday. Well, Happy Birthday to me! We’re gonna have a party, party.
I guess not. Those lyrics don’t apply to me.
Anyway I am to be 6 years young on December 19, 2011. Whoopeee! SIX!
I am one lucky dog or so my human Karyn reminds me. I am lucky because I survived greyhound racing. Unlike some of my would be friends and ancestors who break their legs and hocks, who are electrocuted, who have heart failure, who collide and tumble on the ground, and who are put to sleep which means they don’t wake up ever — yes, I am one lucky dog.
My human said that December 19 is special to her in another way too because in 2009, that was when the Phoenix Greyhound Park closed its doors forever. I raced there and then raced in Tucson too.
Yes, I am forever lucky.
I would like to thank Jenny at Greyhounds-2-Go who took me in and then let my Karyn adopt me. Four paws up to Jenny! Here’s a photo of Jenny at the Greyhound Fall Festival. One of her dogs broke her pelvis racing. That must have hurt really badly. The hound is fortunate that Jenny rescued her.
The top photo of me was taken at the school where I go sometimes. The teacher Ms. Vigo teaches a class on animal compassion and animal cruelty. Karyn tells them about dog racing and how to adopt a greyhound. The kids are fun and ask the best questions. Then we have a love fest.
In the top photo, the kids knew it was my birthday so one girl brought a party hat for me to wear. I also got some presents. The Bee was too big for my skinny head but I humored them. Somehow I cannot see myself as a bumble bee. Buzz off.
This next photo is Ms. Vigo and her class and me. It was a great day and I hope they keep inviting me back. I am happy to go to other schools and visit people who need cheering up. While I am kind and on my best behavior (I don’t mark in inappropriate places), I do not own a pet therapy vest.
It does appear that Karyn has invited some of her friends over on Monday so I just might be getting some dog treats. Jett Greyhound can never have enough dog treats.
My life is very interesting and have many canine friends visiting. More about that later.
What you see is what you Jett.
Love ya, the Jett-Setter

Yo boys and girls and my 4-legged friends,
A couple of weeks ago, my human love slave Karyn took me to a middle school here in Tucson. Ms. Vigo did a lesson on dogs and compassion and since I’m a dog — a greyhound to be exact — I was invited to be part of the lesson. The lesson also included a portion about dog racing and adopting a greyhound.
Karyn answered questions asked by the students.
The kids were sure smart and loveable. I loved them all and licked most of them. I got so excited I jumped on the principal but she said she didn’t mind. I also poked my nose in all the classrooms with open doors. Greyhounds are nosy, me especially.
Karyn was relieved that I didn’t relieve myself in an inappropriate spot. If she’s relieved, then I’m relieved.
I hope they invite us back because one of the boys was afraid of dogs until he met me.
Life is good here and full of surprises but more about that next time.
Until then…
Hugs & treats from your Jett Greyhound

Friday – August 12 – was my “gotcha” day. I’m not sure what that means but my human Karyn seemed all excited about it when she picked me up at The Greyt Escape. I didn’t get any presents or special treats though. She kept saying happy happy “gotcha, gotcha, gotcha.”
I have been living in this crazy household for one year and it sure beats a crate at the dog track.
I can sleep all day and I get to eat really good food and treats.
My human loves on me and this house is my bed. I sleep on the dog beds, the human bed, the sofa, and the bed on the patio. It’s all mine but sometimes I share.
Not only do I get two-legged visitors but lots of four-legged visitors.
My favorite four-legged visitor is Donut. She is sweet. We love on each other and sometimes she lays on my dog bed while I’m on it too! I like Donut so much that sometimes she lays on the human bed with Karyn and there’s no space for me. That’s okay as I lay nearby. I am a gentleman.
Donut and her human and me and my human take long walks and hang out. Donut is sweet. Once she visited for four days without her human and life was just about perfect.
Another friend is Carter. He came last year before he got adopted and he was a cool dude. Then he got lost and my human was out of her mind looking for him. (She didn’t lose him.) Then he got found and came to visit with his human. It was good to see him. Then he just came again for 12 days to stay with us. We are good buddies. My human loves Carter very much. He loves to play with my toys and so I let him.
A few weeks ago this all white dude named Petey stayed here. He was just off the dog track and being neutered. He’s all white with some freckles. We love freckles. Petey was fun. My human fell in love with Petey or so she said. I heard he got adopted by a nice family and that makes me happy.
Then there is Saffron. Her human and my human are friends too. Saffron is a bit of an older woman but very kind. I went to visit her at her new house which is closer to mine so I’m sure we will become better pals.
One day I went to visit someone who had an older greyhound named Harmony (she flirted with me) and a small dog Mimzy who was the boss of us all. And on two separate occasions other dogs stayed a short while – Torque who marked everything and Daisy who growled at me.
So as you can see I am a popular boy dog and have friends too.
Life is good. I hope that every greyhound dog has the chance to live a wonderful life like me. And happy “gotcha” to you too.

In case your are clueless, I am the JETT-Setter.
The photo on top is me and my person meeting the world-famous mystery writer David Rosenfelt. My person coordinated a fundraiser for GREY2K USA and the Humane Society of Southern Arizona. In this photo we are at Clues Unlimited mystery bookstore in Tucson. A big kissy THANK YOU goes to Chris Burke and to Mr. Rosenfelt for permitting this awesomely fun and fundraising event to happen.
Chris has a greyhound named Canelo and he’s the store dog. A Golden Retriever was also present but when I tried to make friends, all I got were growls so that was that. I worked the people crowd instead. Jerry and Kathy Tucker are my new best friends and Auntie Jean Rettus always makes me smile.
People bought chances to have their pet’s name in David Rosenfelt’s next book. Lots of greyhounds were entered plus other dog breeds as well as cats and three pot-bellied pigs from 24 states and the UK. As luck would have it, Cuveé won! Cuveé lives in Tucson and greets customers at CataVinos Wine Shoppe.
Aside from a famous author, I have met Kyra Batte, Miss Pima County 2011. She is pretty, sparkly, and smells nice. I went to a photo shoot for The Pet Friendly Traveler. Our friend Edie Jarolim wrote the script and I was one of a few dogs paw-stur-ing in front of the camera. I’m a natural. I’m in this video!
Much more in my life has happened as I have many more 4-legged friends now but I’ll save that for next time…
Until then…what you see is what you JETT…Greyhound – xox
